Education & Training Opportunities
In a world of rapid innovation in the biological sciences, the emergence of new diseases, and changing environmental pressures, health security risks to the global community are a rising concern. The field of health security has a growing need for trained experts who can provide science-based solutions and inform global policies to shape preparedness and response efforts. Currently, health security and Global Catastrophic Biological Risks (GCBRs) are not routinely integrated into the academic, research, and policy communities. The Center for Health Security offers coursework, practicum opportunities, scholarships, fellowships, and other programs to improve preparedness for and response to public health emergencies and enhance community resilience.
Health Security PhD Track
The Health Security PhD Track is offered within the Bloomberg School of Public Health Environmental Health and Engineering Department. It prepares future leaders to prevent and respond to Global Catastrophic Biological Risks (GCBRs) through the study of major biological and health security risks, research activities, and mentorship.
Health Security DrPH Track
The Health Security Track of the schoolwide Doctorate of Public Health (DrPH) degree program is offered as a specialization within the DrPH Environmental Health Concentration and is a part-time, online program. It provides working professionals with advanced training and research opportunities in health security and prepares them to lead in preparedness for and response to public health emergencies.
Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity Fellowship
The ELBI fellowship is an opportunity for talented career professionals and graduate students to deepen their expertise, expand their professional networks, and build leadership skills through events coordinated by our Center.
