Celebrating 3 Years of the Capitol Hill Steering Committee on Pandemic Preparedness & Health Security
Center News
October 25, 2023 – Launched during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Capitol Hill Steering Committee on Pandemic Preparedness & Health Security is marking 3 successful years.
During this time, the Steering Committee has been at the center of building partnerships, educating, and convening the health security policy community in the National Capital Region, with a special focus on congressional staff. The Committee has hosted 20 sessions, attended by more than 5,000 participants. Held virtually during the height of the pandemic, the briefings transitioned to in-person events this year. Notable past guest speakers include:
- Dr. Raj Panjabi, Senior Director for Global Health Security and Biodefense on the White House National Security Council and Special Assistant to the President
- Dawn O’Connell, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response within the US Department of Health and Human Services
- Former Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius
- Major General (ret.) Paul Friedrichs, Director of the Executive Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy
