June 11, 2019 – Experts from the Center for Health Security are honored to participated in and present at the upcoming Global Health Security 2019 conference in Sydney, Australia, June 18-20. The conference will bring together, for the first time via an international platform, stakeholders working in global health security to measure progress, determine gaps, and identify new opportunities to enhance national, regional, and global health security. The Center will be sharing new research that contributes to important global health security solutions.

Outbreak Observatory aims to increase the conduct of operational research through on-the-ground observations and analyses of infectious disease outbreaks. These observations and analyses are conducted in collaboration with local responders and shared via peer-reviewed publications with the broader public health community to improve preparedness for future outbreaks.

The presentation will focus on three critical points:
- Epidemic recovery is a neglected aspect of global health security that calls for more deliberate analysis, planning, and action at a level commensurate with its importance to affected individuals and communities.
- Recovery research and practice – in connection with natural hazards and disasters –constitute a more mature field whose learnings can help “jumpstart” the development of a research and policy framework for epidemic recovery.
- The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security plans an initiative to codify and communicate strategic and operational insights into epidemic recovery as gleaned from the survivors, health organizations, and communities recuperating from recent large-scale outbreaks.
Throughout the week, Dr. Schoch-Spana, Ms. Meyer and their colleagues, Sanjana Ravi, MPH, Senior Analyst, and Lucia Mullen, MPH, Analyst, will participate in conference events to share valuable lessons learned from the Center for Health Security.
